José David Jirón is from the community of El Higueron, Masatepe, on the eastern edge of where La Semilla offers agronomic services. In an all-too-common scenario, David and his younger brother were raised in a single parent home by their Mom. But at a young age, he moved in with his grandparents as his mom went to Costa Rica to find work to support her family. Money earned in Costa Rica is sent back to Nicaragua to care for her sons and her parents.
Out of this difficult home situation, David managed to attend the university UNIAV to study agriculture. When he ca
me to us through a co-op placement program, we recognized his abilities and appreciated his enthusiasm and so offered him a part-time job while he completed his agriculture degree. Now 23 years old, David’s skills have developed, we are happy to invite him as a full time member of our staff, responsible for the Masatepe/Niquinohomo/San José region of SW Nicaragua.
During his time with La Semilla, we have seen David’s faith grow as well, he was baptized in June 2021. As hisenthu siasm for life is expressed through his faith, we are certain David will make as much of an impact for Jesus as he will in helping to improve farm incomes! He loves his sports and dedicates much of his spare time on two different soccer teams and also one team in baseball.
It has been a pleasure to help David realize a goal of his own micro-enterprise. He has built a small pigpen and is raising hogs in his backyard to supplement his income.Since this is an area he has studied, it’s great to see David putting his education into practice so that he can offer agriculture assistance based not only on knowledge but also personal experience.
“My time with La Semilla has been very beneficial to my personal development” says David. “I’ve had the opportunity to learn from my colleagues and from my experiences. I have a clear vision of agriculture techniques, including some extensive experience now with mechanization. Thanks to Ministerio La Semilla I’m better prepared to provide assistance to others”.
Welcome to the team José David Jirón!
