Although La Semilla Ministries is principally an Agriculture/Economic Development organization, we DO have a heart for the people we interact with. As we work with families in the rural communities of Carazo province, Nicaragua, we often are compelled to aid in the area of community development. That has led us to be involved in such things as clean water initiatives, local school infrastructure improvements, and, most recently – a community medical center.
The community of La Chona sits at km 31 along the Panamerican Highway south of Managua. Doctors do sometimes visit patients in their homes to attend to various illnesses, but this community is definitely in need of a permanent facility where medical staff can help on a regular and predictable basis.
Enter “CENTRA CARES”. Through a relationship which began a couple of years ago through our Canadian contacts, La Semilla Ministries was host to a team of employees from the Langley, B.C. based company CENTRA. This employee -owned business has a humanitarian foundation – Centra Cares – which is focused on projects that promote generosity within their ranks. As a foreign project, Centra Cares chose to work with us to help this medical centre become reality.
Work on the site began several months ago with the architectural drawings, and foundation work began at the beginning of September. Many volunteers from La Chona and surrounding communities were busy all through September and October laying the foundation and constructing the block walls. The Centra Cares team was here the first week of November to help with the roof, exterior sidewalks, electrical installation, and interior walls.
Thanks CENTRA for all your help!
